Let the Bells Ring Again at St John’s

For over 150 years, the bells of St John the Evangelist, Woodley have marked worship, celebration, and remembrance at the heart of our community. Cast in 1854, their sound once called people to prayer and proclaimed hope beyond the church walls.

Today the bells are silent. Age and wear have made them unsafe to ring, and without urgent restoration these historic bells are at risk of permanent loss. By restoring them, we can preserve a treasured part of Woodley’s heritage, revive a living Anglican tradition, and allow the bells to ring out once more — calling people to worship, marking life’s moments, and offering joy, comfort, and connection for generations to come.

Our fundraising target is £24,000, which will cover the full cost of professionally restoring the bells and returning them to safe working order.

You can find updates on how much we have raised so far, along with more information about the restoration process and how to support the project, by following the link below.
